Shoshone County is a county located in due East of Kootenai County. The county was established in 1864. It was named for the Shoshone Indian tribe. As of the 2000 Census the county had a population of 13,771. The county seat is Wallace. Shoshone County is commonly referred to as the Silver Valley due to its mining history. The Silver Valley is the most famous and most produced silver mining area in the United States and it also now hosts the world’s largest gondola at Silver Mountain, and the world’s largest car dealership Dave Smith Motors. Both of which are located in the city of Kellogg. Wallace, Idaho is known as the Center of the Universe as a manhole cover now states the exact center of the Universe which is located in Wallace
